The $1.3 billion UC Merced 2020 Project is one of the largest, most complex P3 social infrastructure projects undertaken in the U.S. to date.
This project was the first of its kind in higher education and comprised of the delivery of over 1.2 million SF across 13 buildings and associated infrastructure. The campus was delivered in three phases and facilities included a wellness center, arts and computational laboratory, bsl3 laboratory, student housing and instructional learning classrooms, dining center, administrative and academic leadership offices, 299 seat auditorium, and research wet and dry laboratories.
UC Merced 2020 was a DBFOM which required the rigorous selection of a consortia of firms inclusive of a design builder after an extensive RFP process. WT, who acted as Owner’s Representative throughout all phases of the project post RFP release, provided a cohesive link between the DB firm and Public Owner to deliver the project on-budget and on-schedule.
Across the four-year design and construction period, WT managed over 500 RFIs, 200 design packages, 150 change orders, 10 relief event claims, and more. WT also provided upfront cost estimating feasibility services identifying over $130 million which enabled the development to move forward.
