St. John’s, NL – WT Partnership (WT) is pleased to announce the full-service commencement of the New Adult Mental Health and Addictions Centre in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. As the Independent Certifier for this landmark project, WT played a critical role in ensuring the delivery of this state-of-the-art healthcare facility, now ready to serve the community.
Constructed as an addition to the existing Health Sciences Centre, the 240,000 square-foot, six-storey facility includes 102 beds dedicated to adult mental health and addiction services. The modern design focuses on patient-centered care, providing a supportive and healing environment for individuals on their recovery journeys. The building has been designed to achieve LEED® Silver Certification.
The project also features a 1,000-space parking garage and a new 60-bed hostel, replacing the Agnes Cowan Hostel. This significant infrastructure enhancement offers improved access and support for both patients and their families, ensuring comprehensive care services across the facility.
WT’s role on the project
WT’s role as the Independent Certifier ensured that the project met all required specifications and standards, validating each stage of the construction process. By serving as an impartial third party, WT provided oversight to guarantee that the facility was completed in accordance with the contractual agreements, safeguarding the interests of all stakeholders involved.
“We are proud to have been the independent certifier for such an important healthcare project,” said Jon Bawdon, Senior Vice President at WT. “This facility is a major step forward in mental health and addiction care for the province, and we’re honored to have contributed to its successful delivery.”
