Property Council of Australia – Victorian Development of the Year 2016

WTP is proud to be the preferred QS on this award winning  $13M project.  The client was Lend Lease, Places Victoria and City of Melbourne, with design by Clare Design & Hayball.

The Project

Located at the intersection of Collins Street and Bourke Street, the new Docklands Library and Community Centre development is a three storey resource for Docklands residents.

The intention was to provide a cultural hub for the community, beyond a traditional library space by utilising wireless, satellite and tablet technology platforms and offering function and performance spaces multi-purpose meeting rooms, outdoor reading area and exhibition spaces.

Library at the Dock also sets a new standard for sustainable practice, being the first six star Green Star rated building. It was constructed atop a 100 year old timber wharf requiring the innovative use of Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) for structural and cladding elements. CLT delivers a viable alternative to concrete and steel that can withstand the same pressure as prefabricated concrete but requires less foundations, cutting construction time by as much as a third.
