UC Merced 2020 Project ATTAINS LEED Platinum CertifiCATION ON All occupiable buildings.

Merced, CA — Last week marked the culmination of fifteen years of hard work – and The University of California, Merced (UC Merced) has achieved something truly extraordinary. By attaining LEED Platinum certification on all eleven occupiable buildings across the UC Merced 2020 Project, a remarkable feat has been realized by a team of dedicated individuals, with the strong backing of leadership at the university.

Since its inaugural year of operation in 2005, UC Merced has continued to exemplify what it means to be a public research university, embracing long term sustainability. Working as Owner’s Project Delivery Advisor, WT was proud to have managed the original technical requirements on the UC Merced 2020 Project, mandating LEED Gold certification across the campus’ expansion.

However, after a meticulous review by WT, in conjunction with UC Merced project partners, the developer was presented findings that indicated LEED Platinum certification was entirely achievable. Negotiated changes with the developer established an addendum of minimum requirements which were coordinated across all project teams to ensure that each building met the project’s newly outlined LEED Platinum sustainability goals, emphasizing energy and water efficiency, daylight access and carbon reduction.

WT offers its sincerest congratulations to all parties involved in achieving this monumental feat and is proud to continue to work alongside clients such as UC Merced, as the firm focuses on providing increased value and industry leading advisory to the North American higher education sector.
