WT are pleased to announce our role as the Independent Certifier on the Toronto Courthouse Project.
WT would like to congratulate EllisDon Capital as the developer, Renzo Piano Building Workshop and NORR Architects & Engineers Limited as the design team and EllisDon Facilities Services Inc. and SNC Lavalin O&M as the facilities management team.
Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and the Ministry of the Attorney General (MAG) have awarded a fixed-price contract of $956.4 (CAD) Million to EllisDon Infrastructure to design, build, finance and maintain the new Toronto Courthouse Project located north of Toronto’s City Hall. Many of Toronto’s Ontario Court of Justice Criminal Courts currently are distributed across the city. The Toronto Courthouse Project will amalgamate several courts into one state-of-the-art facility that will allow for an overall reduction in costs, improved operations and equal access to services. Highlighted features will include: the first learning center in an Ontario courthouse; a single point of entry that will be equipped with magnetometers, baggage scanners and continuous video surveillance; along with private rooms furnished with a closed-circuit television that will enable vulnerable witnesses to appear without jeopardizing the court.
Construction is scheduled to begin in spring of 2018 and has an anticipated completion date of spring 2022. The Project will be designed to achieve a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Silver certification bolstering Ontario’s estate portfolio by ensuring the Project is environmentally responsible, universally accessible and efficient with it’s resources.
