Steve has more than thirty years’ experience providing cost management and control to clients in Europe, the Middle East, Canada and the United States. For the past 18 years, he has been based in Seattle, involved in the development of several of the city’s current and proposed landmarks.
Although experienced in a wide variety of public, institutional and private project types, Steve’s principal focus for the last 15 years has been on sports, recreation and public assembly facilities. During that time, he has worked on more than 200 sports and recreation projects; ranging from multi-billion dollar professional football stadiums to renovations of community baseball fields.
Coupling this experience with an active imagination and a collaborative communication style, Steve endeavors to educate project participants on the principal cost drivers which should be anticipated and practically accounted for in advance of detailed design development.
His vision for successful project cost management hinges around frequent, active interaction with project teams and his most successful projects have been those where the initial project scoping budget is developed by the cost team and then shared with design, owner and construction team members with a view to achieving “buy-off” on its validity. Changes in design and reactions to new information are, to the extent possible, reconciled within this overall budget, requiring continuous input and flexibility from all team members: a true team effort.
