The addition of the patient care tower will include approximately 26,700 square meters of new health care facilities and will significantly improve access to services, and improve patient care through the consolidation of programs currently distributed throughout the hospital.

The project will be constructed in two phases. Phase one includes the construction of the patient care tower and the parking facility. The tower will include an ambulatory care center, surgical services, 84 medical/surgical inpatient beds in single patient rooms, a new medical device reprocessing unit, and space for the University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine program.

The second phase of the project will involve the renovation of vacated areas in the existing hospital as well as the pharmacy, store and support spaces. This project will follow a DBFM model. Construction of the tower and parkade is expected in August 2016. The tower is scheduled to open in spring 2019.

WT Partnership has been appointed by EllisDon Infrastructure PRH Limited Partnership to provide Independent Certifier services for the project.
