Vice President (Cost Consulting)
As a Vice President and regional leader for WT, I am responsible for overseeing our project delivery and business operations on the East Coast. I am particularly involved in the delivery of specialist-level quantity surveying and project management services to a variety of clients throughout the United States and Canada. I have over 25 years of experience, spread across 5 countries and 4 continents, and have been blessed to have worked with several of the preeminent Global construction cost/project management consultancies and construction firms, managing teams throughout all phases of a project.
During my career, I have developed a unique skill set, whereby I proactively manage complex components, with a focus on providing cost certainty, maximizing value and reducing risk. This approach has enabled me to build close relationships with clients and delivery teams alike, where I’m often regarded as a trusted advisor on the delivery of their projects.
Originally from Scotland, I graduated from Heriot Watt University with a Masters Degree in Construction Financial Management, before leaving the UK to work in Hong Kong, The Bahamas, the US and Australia. Presently, I am based in WT’s Boston office and living in the North Shore area with my wife and two children, who now officially call America home.
The Global Headquarters for the Royal Bank of Scotland was built on the site of the former Gogarburn Hopsital, which lies on the outskirts of Edinburgh. The 90 acre site was transformed into a multi-award winning campus for 3,500 staff and included a leisure facility, conference center, residential executive training facility and daycare center.
The campus was one of the first in Scotland to provide numerous on-site facilities, with RBS focusing on providing the best possible environment for it’s staff. The site was cleared in 2002 and construction was complete in late 2005. From the client to the design team, construction manager and contractors, the project was a pleasure to work on from start to finish. The entire team was focused on building a truly iconic project and I will always look back on those times with a smile.
Baha Mar is a $4.2B project that was built in New Providence in The Bahamas. The 3,000,000 square foot resort comprises of a 2,300 guestrooms, spread across 4 hotels, 20 acres of pools / beachfront space, a 90,000 square foot casino, 40 restaurants, Convention Center, and a Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course.
It is the largest hospitality project to have been built in a single phase in the region. The project stalled in 2008 when the global credit crisis hit the financial institutions and the projects JV partner withdrew their funding. The funding was subsequently secured from the Exim Bank of China and the project restarted in 2010. Working for Davis Langdon (now AECOM) at the time, I was one of the first team members who relocated to the island in 2005, setup our office and kicked-off the first project which was an $80M refurbishment / rebranding of a 700 key hotel. I remained involved with the project until 2011, managing the 10 person, site-based commercial team.
