Capital Metro is Canberra’s light rail project and an important part of the ACT Government’s vision to deliver a truly sustainable and creative city. It is the first stage of a city-wide integrated transport network. The 12km stage one light rail route will link Canberra’s city centre with the growing suburbs of Gungahlin via Northbourne Avenue and Flemington Road with a 5km extension to the suburb of Russell.

The works included:

  • Seventeen kilometres of light rail track;
  • Thirteen passenger stops;
  • Depot building and siding yard;
  • Various culverts and bridge structures;
  • Signals and catinery wires; and
  • Associated road works and landscaping works.

WT was engaged in 2014 by the ACTivate Consortium to provide measurements and pricing for the all aspects of the new light rail to be included in the overall P3 proposal to the ACT Government.

Following the competitive procurement process, the successful industry consortium was appointed in 2016 with light rail operations commencing in 2019/20.
