Commission builds on WT’s growing presence in the region.

CALGARY, AB — The Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC) have appointed WT Partnership (WT) in support of Calgary’s landmark Event Centre project.

Following a competitive solicitation process, WT was selected to lead the delivery of cost consulting services on the development of a multi-purpose, state of the art facility designed to host concerts, assemblies, and festivals, as well as serve as the future home to the NHL’s Calgary Flames, WHL’s Calgary Hitmen and NLL’s Calgary Roughnecks. In partnership with The City of Calgary and the Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation, CMLC sought responses from firms with experience in delivering world class sports and entertainment venues to be part of an integrated project team for the duration of the new venue’s design and construction stages.

A MAJOR MILESTONE FOR CALGARY

Considered a catalytic city-building project and outlined in the Rivers District Master Plan, Calgary’s estimated $550 million Event Centre will be key to realizing the vision of the City’s emerging Culture & Entertainment District, creating a new center point in the community at the entry to Stampede Park and with the goal of injecting new energy into the Victoria Park neighbourhood.

WT IN THE REGION

Springboarding off of WT’s instrumental roles working on the Calgary Cancer Centre and Edmonton Valley Line LRT, two of the largest projects in the region, WT has established itself as a leader in the provision of consulting services in the market and have developed a strong local presence and corporate investment in Alberta.

“With WT currently working in a very similar role on the Calgary Cancer Centre, we’re excited to play our part in making this landmark project a reality. We understand that this is about more than just an arena, this project will become a regular meeting place for the community in Calgary to share future successes and will weave its way into the everyday fabric of the City,” remarked Phil Nixon, Executive Vice-President.

CONTINUED SPORTS VENUE EXPERTISE

With a project portfolio boasting iconic professional and collegiate sports venues, such as the NBA’s LA Clippers Arena, the NFL’s CenturyLink Field, New Aloha Stadium Entertainment District and Moncton, New Brunswick’s Avenir Centre, WT sees their involvement with Calgary’s new Event Centre as a natural fit, complimenting their aptitude and passion for driving value in the construction of extraordinary sports and civic spaces.

“We are delighted to be able to utilize our 18-years’ worth of specialized sports cost consulting experience and deploy it for and on behalf of The City of Calgary” remarked Steve Kelly, Senior Vice-President – Cost Consulting.
